Description OPERATIONS DIRECTOR – MANAGING DIRECTOR (DESIGNATE)
NUCLEAR DECOMMISSIONING COMPANY WITH TURNOVER CA £3M/YEAR
The Candidate should be a science or engineering graduate and be Staff College trained.  Knowledge of basic nuclear theory would be advantageous to the extent of understanding the properties of alpha, beta, gamma and neutron radioactivity.  Experience of basic accounting is also highly desirable. The Candidate must have excellent man management skills to deal with workforce that ranges from young trainee decommissioning operatives to highly experienced nuclear engineers.  The ability to express himself clearly and concisely both verbally and in the written word is essential; he or she will be required both to generate documentation and review that written by others.  Ideally he/she should have some knowledge of the commercial world possibly from a tour in the Procurement Executive; although this is not a marketing role as there is a person with specific responsibilities for that within the Company, he will have to react to work opportunities as they arise.  The post will involve significant travel both in the UK and Continental Europe but the main operating site for the Company is Dounreay in the north of Scotland where he will be required to spend much of his time.
This represents a unique opportunity to join a fast growing, successful and vibrant company with the aim of taking overall control within 18 months. Initially the successful candidate will take responsibility for the safe and commercially advantageous delivery of all work to our clients.  Within one year of starting it is anticipated that the current Managing Director will progressively hand over more responsibilities.  There will be a steep learning curve for the successful applicant but the reward will be management of a Company that is likely to expand very significantly during his tenure.  The position will test the technical, administrative, man management and financial skills of the successful candidate to the full.  For more information on the Company, please visit our website www.ndsl.org.uk and view the film about us.  If you still believe that you have the required capabilities, please contact Michael Napper in the first instance Quoting ‘Forces Net 1’: michaelnapper@ndsl.org.uk or 01862 811130 for an informal discussion
